“Knowing the culture of the United Arab Emirates”

Intent: Emirati club offers a variety of activities to the students from grade 1 to 5. In line with the co-curricular activities this club provides an opportunity to the students to learn beyond their curriculum. It was designed to spread the awareness about the Emirati culture amongst the students. It also gives an opportunity to the children to enjoy the various clubs’ activities such as Dance, music, art etc. The other clubs are the ‘Aman’ club, the ‘Marhaba’ club, the ‘Infinity’ club and the ‘Well-being’ club. These clubs promote Islamic and Emirati culture and also reflects the values of the late Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who strongly encouraged the children to pursue education, achieve their goals and contribute to the UAE’s development journey.

Experience: The activities of the various clubs during their classes engaged children completely.

Aman Club- Learning Objective: to ensure others are safe from your tongue and hand.

Activity: students prepared small booklet on peace and expressed their support in maintaining the peaceful coexistence in UAE.

Marhaba Club- Learning Objective: to identify the Arabic conversation commonly used in UAE. (fil madrasa)

Activity: students experienced basic conversation phrases and talked in arabic on the theme fil madrasa and fil hadeeqa

Art & Culture Club- Learning Objective: To learn free hand painting, To develop eye hand co-ordination.

Activity: Children will be painting newspaper roll by using U.A.E colours. Children will make ready colourful painted flowers.

Learning outcomes: To be able to do free hand painting independently.

Infinity Club- Learning Objective: To be able to, create a Dubai Frame using 2D shapes and waste materials.

Activity: Children used Recycling (Materials) like newspaper, thermacol  etc, and made  the Dubai Frame. They cut the waste paper into 2d shapes and colored and pasted it on the frame and made Dubai frame.

Wellbeing Club- Learning Objective: To be able to identify the Logo of the year of Tolerance.

Activity: The students drew the logo of the year of the tolerance and did Thumb painting. They further wrote what each leaf in the picture symbolizes and spoke about it.

Dance Club- Learning Objective: 1. Develop a greater Understanding of UAE culture. 2.Students will interpret the basic tradition dance of UAE culture.

Activity: The students became confident dancers. The students could improvise meaningful Emirati dance. The children learnt the Arabic dance form called ‘’ AL AYALA’’.

 Science and technology- Learning Objective: To introduce the satellites launched by UAE.

Activity: With the help of some videos and pictures teachers explained the concept of satellites to the students. Later as a example the teachers introduced the satellites launched by UAE.

Insight: The Emirati culture was well explained through these clubs and its activities.

Intent: Quiz competitions are always interesting and informative, which builds excitement among the students and also make them aware of concepts in Mathematics. Credence High School successfully conducted an Inter House Quiz competition in the school auditorium on Tuesday, 30^th April 2019 for the students of Grade- 2 to Grade-10 in which four different houses with four fervent participants in each house gave tough battle to each other.

Experience: Math quiz was conducted for all four houses Maple, Oak, Pine and Willow. Selected candidates were prepared rigorously before representing their respective class. It created an opportunity for the children to bring out their talent on a common platform. The competition was conceptualized under the guidance of talented Math Department Team who were the Quiz masters for their respective class quiz as well. The results for the different categories are as below:

Intent: Nothing beats an exciting hands-on experience to deepen learning. The magic of field trip isn’t just the subject. It’s the break of routine and adventure that opens up children’s mind to new things. Field trips are Self-Motivated learning. Children are given the freedom to express their feelings and it builds curiosity towards the objects seen and how they work. Field trips are an awesome part of learning, which allow students of all ages to engage in fun and exciting hands on learning experiences that they are sure to enjoy. With this in mind a field trip was organized for the students of KG1 and KG2 to Sharjah Discovery Center on 29^th and 30th April 2019.

Experience:  A large number of children visited Sharjah Discovery Center. Children enjoyed the trip.  Every student acquired knowledge on culture and hands-on experience. Hands-on experiences produce questions and answers eventually helping a child’s understanding.

Cross-curricular Links: Music, Understanding of the World, Science topics-such as Senses, Human body, Water, Hand and Eye co-ordination, Real life Application /Role play such as a car workshop, Steam boat, Airport, Submarine how it works; were the various topics which were covered.

Insight: Field trip provided children to socialize with their peers and children of other classes. Students got the opportunity to see new things and learn about them though in an unstructured way. Learning was filled with curiosity and self-driven.

Badminton Inter House Competition 2019 for Grades 4-10 happened from 29^th – 30^th April 2019. Students were grouped aged wise – U12, U14 & U17 for Boys and Girls Category. Students were given a fair chance of selection by playing a small sided game during the match during PE classes. Top ranked students for every aged group category have qualified to the finals in badminton competition setting.

It was the moment of pride as the all the finalist are playing so hard with dignity for their respective house.

Congratulations to all the students where their zeal and passion are evidently commendable towards badminton.

Intent: Student Council is an organization conducted by students and supervised by adults.  The purpose of the student council is to give students an opportunity to develop leadership by organizing and carrying out school activities and service projects.  In addition to planning events that contribute to school spirit and community welfare, the student council is the voice of the student body.  They help share student ideas, interests and concerns with the school wide community.

Experience: Since last year, Credence High School has been following the Indian Democratic Electoral process for the selection of Student Council Body. From filin­g of nominations, Interview for candidacy, preparation of campaign paraphernalia, election campaigning, Meeting De Avance, first-hand electronic voting, down to the announcement of winners was carried out in a manner which generated a lot of enthusiasm among the candidates and the supporters.  It also offered meaningful insight into the electoral process of the world’s largest democracy. 

Any student that is interested in leadership, organizational behavior, event planning or becoming more involved in the school were free to fill in the nomination form. The teacher committee finalized the candidates for various posts based on the interviews, which then was followed by campaigning and manifesto speech by each candidate. The votes were casted through the google forms in the computer lab and the School Principal announced the results the following day.

Insight: The run up to the elections was an empirical learning journey for the students and teachers of grade 2-9 who were able to connect it to the community through experience. Many students have emerged as leaders and are keen to serve school and community over the academic year 2019-20.

The Awards celebrate the excellent sporting and fitness achievements of all youth in the UAE and awards and recognize schools, colleges, academies, clubs, and sports federations, as well as the dedication of coaches and students by showcasing the achievements of individuals who have excelled and those who have helped others to achieve.

The Science India Forum organized a conference for Yoga Instructors with the theme “Global peace and Harmony through Yoga” The event was attended by different yoga instructors form different Arab region such as Oman, Egypt, Bahrain, Jordan, Saudi, and Syria. Each country has representative who discussed the challenges and opportunities of yoga practitioners in their respective country.

The event was really informative and different aspects of yoga were discussed. The importance of yoga, meditation and its impact to the society as well as the licensing of yoga instructors were also discussed. The conference is a great learning experience for me although it is only intended for yoga instructors, the topics discussed were really very helpful to understand yoga and its concepts.

“Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”

Intent: School trips provide unique opportunities for kinesthetic learning i.e. 'learning by doing' and encourage students to engage with people, places and buildings in new ways. The same being the objective, a visit to the Expo2020 was organized for the students of Grade 5 to 10, which gave them a firsthand experience of what the future world holds in store for the mankind. The Expo 2020 Dubai, a project larger than life, has a Visitor Centre which is a dedicated space there for schools and students to explore and engage with Expo 2020’s theme Connecting Minds, Creating the Future and its subthemes Opportunity, Mobility & Sustainability. 

Experience: Students of Grade 5-10 got the opportunity to visit the next historic landmark of the UAE - the venue of Expo 2020. They had a fascinating experience visiting the various exhibition centers, one of which was the adventure into the tree house where they spent time in the tinkering lab coding and getting a hands on experience of the technological implementations. It was indeed an added advantage. Other innovative learning spaces include an: Art Studio, Tinkering Studio, Animation Studio and the Majlis. A great learning experience through various audio visual presentations and interaction with the representatives added a lot of value to their learning journey. Concluding the visit was a front-row view of what it takes to build an incredible mega event--Expo 2020 Dubai.

Insight: It was indeed an enriching and enlightening experience for the students as well as for the teachers who accompanied them. More than words, the pictures show it all…

“Our Earth Our Responsibility”

Intent: Credence High School is honored to be associated with A UNEP accredited organization, Emirates Environmental Group which continuously strives towards implementing the UN SDG Goal number 4 by educating and empowering the younger generation and instilling values of environmentalism and arming students with confidence, critical thinking skills and sound knowledge on the existing sustainability issues. Students of CHS - Chayan Jude Selvey of grade 8, Harinath, Prithvi, Khyati, and Ema of grade 7 participated in the 19^th Inter School Environmental Public Speaking Competition 2019 at the IMG Worlds Dubai on April 22.

Experience: The competition attracted 600 participants, comprising of 87 teams from the best government and private schools operating in the UAE. Students were encouraged to share innovative solutions and present strong cases on different contemporary issues relating to the environment and sustainable development. The engaging and thought provoking event was bilingual in nature in order to provide both Arabic and English schools with equal opportunities to compete. A panel of environmental experts evaluated the performance of the students on pre-defined criteria. Credence High school also marked its presence in the event where the students chose to contribute their insights on the topic of ‘Food Waste Management: Achieving Zero Hunger’ in the sub senior category. Children presented their view through a PowerPoint presentation and talking about the same. The young Credenians exhibited their confidence and powerful oratory skills and effectively raised awareness on “the food waste management”.

Insight: The competition armed our school students with confidence, critical thinking skills and sound knowledge on the existing sustainability issue.

“So many books, so little time”- Frank Zappa

Intent: To instill a reading culture, to broaden young horizons in arts, sciences, and technology and other fields, to ignite curiosity about the world we live through a diverse and targeted programme of educational and fun-filled activities are the many intentions why our students of Grades 5 to 10 visited the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival on Sunday, 21^st April at the Sharjah Expo. SCRF is a cultural celebration with a lot of books, arts and learning activities in store for the youth. Credence believes in giving exposure and opportunity to the students so that they can be encouraged in learning and self – education, and to help them be a generation of leaders, scholars and professionals who will contribute to the development of their society.

Experience: Students attended the Creative Kids Café wherein they have proved themselves to be geniuses in science, inventions and technology. Others painted pictures that tell creative tales in the form of poetry and stories. Others witnessed the interactive exhibition of a submarine with a series of underwater environments wherein they learned and discovered about marine habitats and creatures, periscopes, how submarine are steered, powered, dive and surface-ballast tanks, what are maritime and diving equipment. Students attended an interactive workshop that covers methods and techniques on how to turn short stories into illustrations. Some of the students witnessed the OPTICAL PEEP wherein they take a look into events of the past. Students met a HUMAN CARTOON of a lady dressed as a famous cartoon character. They watched an UNDERWATER SHOW also about a day in the life of a mermaid and her friend underwater. Students got the chance to create their own MINIATURE THEATER to tell stories and show creativity. The last but not the least is that students were able to witness and examine different genre of books and had the experience to buy their favourite books.

“A battle of smart brains”

Intent: Quizzes change scope of learning, since questions are based out-of-syllabus and require critical thinking and extensive research, students get into the habit of innovative learning from an early age. It encourages team work and bridges academia-industry gap. At Credence we believe in giving such exposure and opportunity to the students. 10 students from CHS of Grade 7 to 9 participated in prestigious Star Quiz Challenge 2019. The Elimination Round was conducted in J.S.S. International School, Dubai on 15^th April 2019. More than 50 schools from all over U.A.E. had participated in the event. The programme was anchored by Mohan Kapoor of the STAR T.V. fame.

Experience: Rules and regulations of the quiz were explained at the beginning. Children took a written quiz of 30 questions orated by the Quiz Master Mohan Kapoor. The students had to write down the answers in the sheets provided within a time limit of 1 minute per question. The students showcased their brilliance by rapidly answering the questions. Though some of the questions were very tricky, the teams tried to answer them with confidence. The questions put forth to the teams were intriguing and exciting.

Insight: It was indeed an enriching and enlightening experience for the participants as well as for the teachers who accompanied them.

“Good manners will open doors that the best education cannot”- Clarence Thomas

Intent: Class assemblies are an essential part of the school’s curriculum, conducted with the intent of imbibing the moral values in the children. Besides, the students also get an opportunity to put up themselves with confidence on the stage and perform in front of fellow students. The morning assembly develops a feeling of affiliation and unity among students and acquaints them with the school programme more clearly. The first class assembly for the new academic session was put up by the senior students of grade 8 and 9 on Wednesday, 10^th April 2019 on the theme ‘Etiquette’ so as to set an example of good conduct for the fellow students.

Experience: At the onset, was the recitation of the ‘Holy Quran’ followed by the ‘Thought for the day’ and ‘News’ that which is the core culture of the school assembly. Thereby, a short skit by the children conveyed the importance of magic words like ‘Please, ‘Thank You’ and many more. The leader’s talk by the Head of English Department – Mr. Shyam was a brief training on good social behaviour desired in public life. Concluding the assembly was the school song followed by the U.A.E. and Indian national anthems.

Insight: It indeed was a wonderful way of beginning the assembly routine at school.
