INTENT: The intent of celebrating International Yoga Day is to introduce students to the benefits of yoga and how it can help them in their lives. It's a chance to:
Learn about yoga: Students discover that yoga is more than just poses (asanas). It's about breath control, focus, and overall well-being.
Improve physical and mental health: Yoga can make students stronger, more flexible, and calmer. This can be helpful for their concentration and focus in school. Have fun and be active: International Day at school can be a chance for students to participate in a fun activity together.
EXPERIENCE: On Friday 21st June 2024 the 10th international yoga day was celebrated at credence high school under the theme Yoga for self and society across all the grades with much fervour and enthusiasm. It was amazing to see students from Pre-KG all the way to grade 12 come together for this special event.
The Little Yogis (Pre-KG & Kindergarten): The youngest yogis were a sight to behold! They giggled as they mimicked animal
poses like "Cat-Cow" and "Downward-Facing Dog." Their teachers used playful
songs and stories to introduce them to basic yoga concepts like breathing and
stretching.
The Budding Yogis (Grades 1-5): These energetic students got a little more involved. They learned simple yoga sequences that incorporated balance poses like "Tree Pose" and core strengthening exercises like "Boat Pose." The laughter grew louder as they tried to hold the poses, cheering each other on.
The Focused Yogis (Grades 6-8): Focus and concentration became the theme for the middle schoolers. They delved deeper into breathing techniques like "Pranayama" and learned how to calm their minds. They were even guided them through a short meditation session, leaving them feeling refreshed and centered.
The Strong Yogis (Grades 9-12): The high schoolers surprised everyone with their enthusiasm. They tackled more challenging poses like "Warrior II" and "Triangle Pose," showcasing impressive strength and flexibility. They even learned some basic yoga philosophy, discussing the connection between mind and body.

INSIGHT: Organizing International Yoga Day at school offers a powerful opportunity. By tailoring activities to different age groups, it can introduce the benefits of yoga – physical, mental, and social – to all students. This can spark lifelong interest, promote well-being, and create a more connected school community.
